Freestyle Champ, Blind Fury Freestyle Champ, Blind Fury Fury Pic5After an unbeaten run on BET’s 106 Park Freestyle Fridays and later holding his own on BET’s 2011 Cypher, this young and gifted artist is fast becoming one of hip hop’s most talented MCs to ever grace a battle. With a guest feature on Tech N9ne’s album in the bag and an album still to be released, one has to definitely acknowledge the undeniable skills that bring real meaning to the words ‘see no competition’. Yes, it’s the freestyle champion you wouldn’t want to challenge, Blind Fury!

Who is Yaga Yaga?
YAGA is an acronym for Young And Gifted Always.

Which artists inspired you to get involved in hip hop?

Artist like Big L, Rakim, UGK, Outkast and Tech N9ne.

What does hip hop mean to you?

Everything! It’s a way of life. It allows me to express myself through something that I love, MUSIC!

You definitely have mastered the art of freestyle battle. Please explain to us just what freestyle is all about?
It’s coming off the top of your head and being clever and witty at the same time.

How do you prepare for a battle?

I just try and find out a few things about my opponent and from there it’s all in the moment.

What would you say are the characteristics of a good freestyle?
Flow, delivery and comeback lines.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I would have to say doing the feature with Tech N9ne on his All 6s and 7s album on the track ‘So Lonely’.

A lot of people have gone through challenges, even when they were little. How would you say the challenges you have faced have helped prepare you to be the exceptional artist that you are?
Well, the challenges I had to face in real life early on, and still to this day, make the challenges in music EASY!

Tell us about your experience of being featured on the BET Cypher?
That was a great experience and one I will never forget. Being in a room with that many great MCs at one time and all filmed on the same day is something I will never forget.

You recently dropped a mixtape titled Do You See What I Hear and on the intro there’s the famous diss that you sang out in the middle of a battle which was really crazy, I must say. What was going on in your head at that moment, and also what is the mixtape all about?
I mean the judges are always rappers, DJs or producers, but you had Chris Brown there and he just happens to be an R&B singer. So, I said, why not start off singing before I get into the rhymes, which turned out to be a good look. As for the mixtape, it’s really just a lot of things that my team and I had sitting around that we didn’t use, so I just recorded a few new freestyles and we put it together. The next mixtape I drop will really be the one to look out for before the album. I don’t have a title yet, but there are a few songs done already.

Any advice for readers out there, trying to make it in this industry?
Never ever give up!! It’s tough and it gets hard, but if you love what you do and you believe in yourself then NEVER GIVE UP!
