The Sprite Uncontainable experience is nearing its exciting climax, which will of course feature Talib Kweli live in South Africa!!! Yes, that was certainly not a rumour.
This past weekend Sprite took to Durban at Moyo at Ushaka Marine World for the first leg of the rooftop parties, after travelling the country for the hottest hip-hop talents in graffiti, emceeing and street dance. Judges Falko (graffiti), Mernoly Simba (dance) and Reason (emceeing), and host Sizwe Dhlomo all sat and watched in amazement as Durban played host to some of South Africa’s most incredible spectacles in the different fields. Of the highlights of the night was the dance battle between Nelspruit’s favourite white boi Costa and Cape Town vet Nicholas Vries. Judge Simba said of the battle, “It makes me very happy to see that there is talent that exists on this level in South Africa. Both Costa and Nick were amazing, the Durban crowd was dope, and I look forward to seeing what the other rooftop experiences will bring us. Big up to Sprite for lending their efforts to promoting street culture.”
Remember that the winners chosen at the grand finale will be joining Talib Kweli in New York for a mentorship and will also be afforded the opportunity to perform with him during that period. You can vote for your favourite of the top 18 daily on www.spritehiphop.co.za so make sure you do that pronto. This weekend the Uncontainable experience will visit The Loop in Cape Town as two more contestants in each category will battle it out for street dominance and a chance to perform at the grand finale. If you are in the code, be sure to make your way there. A measly R50 gets you in so even if you’re balling on a budget, you can still get your groove on.
