Last year Adidas SA launched a few campaigns including #represent, and also launched an interactive space, Area3, at Maboneng District in Johannesburg. And it looks like this year they are at it again bright and early with the launch of the exhibition “From Before They Were Great”; a retrospective, multi-media snapshot of the artwork and documentation that tells the story of Joburg’s diverse and active music scene through its 5 greatest party nights – Thesis Social Jam, Pop Bottles, Griet, Warm Up Parties, and Party People.
The exhibition will feature posters, photos, videos and promoter relics from each event and will be open to the public from Thursday, 21 February 2013 and will run through until Thursday, 4 April 2013.
In addition to that (and this is the part that will really trip you out), there will be a free block party hosted in Kruger Street (outside AREA3) on Thursday, 28 February to launch the exhibition. The block party will feature performances by the respective resident DJ’s that have made Johannesburg nights famous, and will include 1D (Thesis Social Jam), DJ Dimples (Pop Bottles), Moe Joe (Griet), Phat Jack and 2lani the Warrior (Warm Up Parties), and DJ Kenzhero (Party People).
