1992: Mariah Carey’s stepfather took her to court seeking damages, claiming that she’d owed him money for her Manhattan apartment, a car and dental work in her early years. He’d initially agreed to pay for it on the understanding that she would repay him when she became successful.
1998: Toni Braxton filed for Chapter 7 protection in US Bankruptcy Court in LA, listing liabilities of more than $1 million. She’s suffered bankruptcy throughout her career. Let’s hope her album with Babyface that’s set for release in February does well for the R&B singer.
