Riccardo Tisci recently departed from Givenchy as the brands Creative Director. This departure comes after 12 years of success with Tisci and now Givenchy has no creative director but are now scouting for a replacement. Now according to WWD, a Givenchy spokesperson has declined to comment about Virgil Abloh being the possible replacement but he (Virgil) did make some mention of hopefully heading a “leading luxury house.”
“My trajectory is to update and provide something new in the fashion industry by way of creating a project and using it as a case study on how to update a luxury house,” – Virgil Abloh
WWD also brought back a statement that Virgil once told them about his brand Off-White being a springboard for something greater.
“Off-White is sort of my résumé and it’s my laboratory to experiment with these ideas to see which ones are valid.” – Virgil Abloh
Its also been reported that LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (which owns Givenchy) already had its eye on Virgil Abloh when he won that LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers and remember that Tisci and Abloh were both nominated for a Grammy on the packaging work for Kanye West and Jay Z album, Watch the Throne.
