So last week Billboard were wrong when they projected that Kendrick Lamar‘s DAMN. would lose to Drake‘s More Life as the largest debut of 2017. The album was projected to move 475,000 album units in its first week, slightly behind Drake’s 505,000 units. Now the numbers are in and Kendrick’s DAMN. moved 603,000 album units opening week, with 353,000 of that in pure sales (according to Nielsen Music). This means that DAMN. is the largest sales week since Drake’s VIEWS moved 1.04 million units in its launch week. This album is also Kendrick Lamar’s biggest sales week ever and even outperformed his 2015’s To Pimp a Butterfly which moved 324,000 units.
