Weekly Hip Hop Review with D.E.S – 13-08-12

August 13, 2012

Uncle Murda is asking some serious questions about who is the Michael Jordan of rhyme. J Cole came out of hiding, a ‘sick man’ seriously in need of “The Cure”. Oh one of my favorite lyricists of our time, signed to Roc Nation, Jay Electronica, has released the tracklist of Act 2: Patents of Nobility. Is this not enough reason to make you read on and celebrate hip hop with us. King Hov has also updated the lineup to his two day Made in America Festival.

Headz will always wonder what the game would be like if B.I.G was still alive. Perhaps Jigga would not be the king of New York as it seems today. Uncle Murda has summed it all up for us in his “B.I.G. Vs. Jay,” song. Y’all know that there is no G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time) list without the Don Nas and Uncle Murda makes it clear ‘And I’m not tryna s#*t on Nas, trust me I know I ain’t got s#*t on Nas’. Making it clear that he is not disrespecting Nas and he is not even close to his level. A must listen, enough said.

Rick Ross’ fifth studio album was released on July 31 which boasts heavy and exclusive features from the likes of Andre 3000, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Usher and Elijah Blake. Rozay has brought out a timeless work of art. The album is characterized by Justice League’s classy sounding beats. The 15 track album has all cycles of life covered, from Ross being ‘ashamed’ because ‘all the money in the world can’t take this pain away’ and to having his nemesis gambling with their wives on ‘Hold me back’ as he raps ‘B**# nigga let’s play chess, your b*## next, no latex’. Classic.

God Forgives, I don’t is finally out and G.O.O.D Music’s Cruel Summer is my next most anticipated highlight of the year. The crew is made up of Kanye, Pusha T, Cyhi The Prynce, Common, Big Sean, Q Tip, Teyana Taylor, Kid Cudi and 2 Chainz. Cruel Summer drops September 4th.

This week’s standing ovation goes to the one and only C.E.O of Corporate Thugz Entertainment, Mr. Snowman. Young Jeezy what up? This brother right here has been holding the game down with consistency and he has taken it out of his comfort zone to get gangster Gibbs and lately the Philadelphia MC Tone Trump. They all blend in well as they’re soldiers of the same struggle. Jeezy has put together a powerful team that holds the streets down in the same manner that he does. If you don’t believe that, check out the latest studio clip they have recently released performing ‘Real niggas’.

Drake is 25 and going through a bit of a crisis, remember those lines from Drake’s guest verse on ‘Aston Martin’? The Young Money rapper is being tested to the max. First it was Ludacris, Pusha T, DMX, Common, Chris Brown and now the person who scouted his talent and introduced him to Young Money is suing Drake’s management. Jas Prince is the man behind the law suit and claims that they reached a deal that they would split profits associated with Drake’s success and he claims he has not been paid a dime. If you don’t know Jas, he is the guy who got a Lamborghini as a birthday present from Drizzy. Smoke in the house.

Nas’ Life is good album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200. Let’s see if Rozay can beat that since it seems like he is more popular than Nas at this moment. 2 Chainz (also known as the ‘hair weave killer’) has hit his first gold status with his ‘No lie’.  The militant minded Birdman has awarded Nicki Minaj with a plaque after Roman Reloaded shipped a million copies worldwide.

Nicki Minaj is full of life in her latest video ‘Pound the alarm’ which was shot at her hometown Trinidad. And still with the camera lovers; Waka Flocka gave us a glimpse of his Triple F Life Tour on ‘Fist Pump’ video.

There is a vicious rhyme spitter signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, who goes by the name of Jay Electronica. The New Orleans rapper made headlines when two hip hop moguls fought for his signature; notably Jay-Z and Diddy. This robust metaphor spitter has revealed the tracklist to his debut album Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn). There are features from Jay-Z, Diddy, Kanye West and The Dream just to mention a few. We need a release date Jay; it’s been a long time coming.

2 Chainz also revealed what he has in store for us come August 14th, ‘Based on a T.R.U. Story’. The G.O.O.D Music affiliated rapper has managed to recruit the following artists for his debut; Lil Wayne, Kanye West, The Dream, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Drake, Scarface, Dolla Boy (from Playaz Circle), John Legend, Cap 1 and Mike Posner.

In my last installment, I had some questions about Cole’s whereabouts. Guess what somebody got my message and passed it. Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, Simba is back and this time he is really sick. He needs ‘The cure’ is it not ironic because it’s the title of his latest two versed freestyle over The Thrones ‘Lift off’. ‘What you made last week, I just tipped the f#**ng waiter, what that feel like? Tell me what that feel like? Nigga fuck your Twitter, bitches follow me in real life’ raps Cole on the intro of the epic freestyle. This is Cole that we need…
