Seen as the leading lady in Riky Rick’s ‘I Need Money’ music video, Boitumelo Thulo is nothing short of an intrinsic South African gem. And having an impressive repertoire that includes TV presenting, acting, modelling for Head Honcho clothing and a mind and personality to match, this 22-year-old bombshell was a unanimous choice for our youth issue’s HYPE Honey. Ladies and gentleman…  Boity.

How did you get into acting/presenting?

It had been my dream since an extremely young age to pursue a career in acting and presenting. The day I finally woke up and decided to give it a shot, as Paulo Coelho says, “the universe whet my appetite” – also known as beginner’s luck. I went for my first audition ever and that was for the lead role in the Wimpy Cheesanator ad. I was up against a lot of industry people who had been around for a while so I was convinced that I was not going to get the part. Then I got the call that I had the role and that’s how it all started for me. Since that advert aired, I have received so much media attention which has assisted in all that I have done thus far. God has been extremely kind to me.

What’s your idea of a perfect date?

A beautiful, mentally stimulating conversation. Laughter – a lot of it. Red wine. Being lost in each other’s presence – so much so, that the location of the date doesn’t play that big a role.

What’s the craziest thing a guy has done to attract your attention?

Yuck… A dude started coughing – so disgustingly – almost like he was choking. It sounded terrible, so I had to look back and all he got was a split-second glance and a head shake [sigh].

Pet peeve?

I have a few, but the ones that stand out are being kept waiting and people who chew with their mouths open. I genuinely don’t get it [shakes head].
