OutKast rapper Big Boi has nothing left to prove to the music industry
The hip hop star – whose first solo album Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is due for release this month – admitted although he has achieved a lot during his time with ‘Hey Ya’ hitmakers, he wants to “bring it back to the music”.
He said: “OutKast is the only group in the hip hop genre that has won album of the year. Nobody else has done that; we’ve sold diamond. There’s not a lot to prove. But for the past few years, people have been getting away from music and it’s been about whose sleeping with who, who got arrested, just drama. So I’m here to bring it back to the music.”
While Big Boi’s talents lie in the hip hop arena, it is clear he draws his musical influence from a wide range of artists. He told the Metro newspaper: “When I grew up my top two artists of all time were Bob Marley and Kate Bush. I’ve been listening to different types of music for so long, everything plays a part in what I do. On my iPod I’ve got everything from Little Dragon to Eric Clapton to Johnny Cash to NWA to Geto Boys, 2 Live Crew, Conway Twitty.”
