In this category, the award is given to the performer, producer, engineer and executive producer of an album released within the eligibility period.

The Best Break Dancer will be awarded for excellence in break dancing and will be awarded to individual dancers performing traditional floor and/or upright break dance techniques. This category will be judged by a panel of qualified judges that wil be announced in the near future.

The Best Beat Boxer category will be awarded for excellence in the art of beat boxing and will be awarded to individual beat boxers.

The Best DJ category will be awarded for excellence in the art of mixing records with the use of traditional turntables or CDJs. It will be awarded to individual DJs.

The Best Graffiti category is aimed at recognizing excellence in visual literacy, specifically in hip hop influenced spray painted wall murals and lettering. This category can be awarded to an individual or a crew.

The Best Group category will be awarded in recognition of the most popular vocal recording hip hop group with an album released within the eligibility period.

The Best Lyricist category will be awarded for excellence in the written word. It will be awarded to individual writers based on lyrical content.

The Best Mixtape category will be awarded in recognition for excellence in the compilation and audio packaging of an artist’s pre-album promotional audio material, an artist’s audio work mixed by a DJ as well as a compilation mixed by a DJ. This category can be awarded to individual artists, groups, producers and DJs.

This category is awarded to a new artist, as well as a new brand entering the hip hop industry. Not restricted to band new up and coming artists, this category may include new groups formed by established artists as well as established artists embarking on solo careers, or careers within new groups.

The Best Solo Artist category will be awarded in recognition of the most popular individual vocal recording hip hop artist with an album released within the eligibility period.
