Once again broadcasting all the action, glitz and glam of the MTN SAMA 19, fans can witness the acclaimed event on Sat 1 June on SABC1 at 8pm if they missed the live broadcast in May – or just to remind themselves how well hip hop did on the night
From being at the live event myself, I’m definitely looking forward to watching it on TV and comparing the two atmospheres. The Superbowl at Sun City was alive with electricity, especially when Dr Malinga got up during one of the ad breaks. The fans went buck as he did one of ‘em famous kicks! The man is an entertainment powerhouse of note.
One thing I’d really like to see is whether they’ll incorporate any of the pre-awards into the edited version on Saturday. Headz were definitely upset when best rap album was announced at the pre-ceremony and not at the actual live performance – not to mention that Khuli didn’t even get to make a speech for that award. Nonetheless scooping Best Male and Best Album certainly made up for it.
It’ll also be interesting to see how the performances were carried across on TV. Opening acts Reason and Toya Delazy definitely killed it. One thing we gotta give props to is the level of production which is notably elevated year after year. Artists are taking themselves more seriously, but more importantly production companies are upping their own game by giving artists the creative reign to have their on-stage fantasies become a reality.
Apart from hip hop, the star of the show it seems was the fashion this year. Notice how everyone elevated their suit game? Catch the repeat on Sat and let us know your thoughts. We love hearing from y’all.
